Cathodic protection (CP) is a widely used method for preventing corrosion on metal surfaces in contact with water or soil. It works by making the protected metal surface the cathode of an electrochemical cell. There are two main types of cathodic protection: sacrificial anode cathodic protection (SACP) and impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP).
